Chargers Battle but Fall to USA on the Road

The Crandall Chargers competed with energy and resilience but came up short in a straight-sets loss (25–17, 25–23, 25–20) to USA on Friday night at USTA.

After a challenging opening set, Crandall settled in and showed strong improvement over the final two frames, pushing USA deep into each set with improved offensive rhythm and defensive coverage. The Chargers were within striking distance late in both the second and third sets but were unable to close out key points.

Connor Kirkland led Crandall offensively with 8 kills while hitting an efficient .636, adding 2 block assists for a team-high 10 points. Francois Benoit contributed 7 kills, and Payton Sanipass added 6 kills and 6 digs in a well-rounded performance. Jack Hillier chipped in with 3 kills and a block assist.

Setter Mico Guiao directed the offense with 24 assists, while Kian Guevarra, Shane Huggard, and Evan King helped anchor the back row as the Chargers totaled 28 digs. At the net, Crandall recorded 6 block assists, applying pressure throughout the match.

Despite being out-hit by USA, Crandall showed growth as the match progressed, particularly in serve-receive and transition offense during the second and third sets.

The Chargers will look to build on their late-set execution and competitiveness as they prepare for their next matchup.
