Chargers Drop Four-Set Match to USA
The Crandall Chargers battled through four sets but came up short in a 3–1 loss to USA on Saturday afternoon at USTA.
USTA claimed the opening two sets by scores of 25–16 and 25–17, capitalizing on efficient attacking and steady service pressure. Crandall responded with a strong performance in the third set, earning a 25–22 win behind improved ball control and timely kills to extend the match.
In the fourth set, USTA regained momentum and closed out the contest with a 25–20 victory, finishing the match with a higher overall hitting percentage and consistent offensive production.
Offensively, Connor Kirkland led the Chargers with 11 kills and a team-high 14.5 points, while Payton Sanipass added nine kills, two service aces, and 12 points. Francois Benoit contributed seven kills, and Noah MacDonald chipped in with solid defensive work and four points.
Crandall totaled 21 kills and 55 digs, with Mico Guiao anchoring the offense by recording 28 assists. Despite flashes of strong play—particularly in the third set—the Chargers were unable to sustain momentum across all four frames.
The Chargers will look to build on their third-set performance as they prepare for their next matchup, focusing on consistency in serve-receive and offensive efficiency.
