Chargers Take Control Early, Down UKC 86–74 in Regular Season Tune-Up

The Crandall Chargers delivered a strong all-around performance Saturday night, defeating UKC 86–74 in the second-last game of the regular season. With a rematch set for tomorrow in the season finale, the Chargers set the tone early and showed they're peaking at the right time.

Fast Start Sets the Tone

Crandall came out sharp on both ends of the floor, building a 20–12 lead after the first quarter before erupting for 30 points in the second. By halftime, the Chargers held a commanding 50–27 advantage, fueled by efficient shooting and relentless defensive pressure.

The Chargers shot nearly 49% from the field in the game, including an impressive 57% in the second quarter, moving the ball well and attacking the paint with confidence.

Hearn Leads the Charge

Charity Hearn was dominant from start to finish, pouring in 30 points on 12-of-16 shooting. She added four assists and eight steals, impacting the game on both ends of the court and setting the tone defensively.

Kelsey Alward provided a powerful presence inside with 20 points and a team-high 10 rebounds, controlling the glass and finishing strong around the rim. Tristan DesRoches contributed eight points, including two three-pointers, while Lauren Lilly added five points and five assists in a steady floor game.

Defense Creates Offense

Crandall's defensive pressure proved decisive. The Chargers forced 35 turnovers and turned them into 38 points, consistently converting defense into transition opportunities. They also dominated the paint, outscoring UKC 50–20 inside.

Although UKC held the rebounding edge, the Chargers' intensity, efficiency, and ball movement more than made up the difference.

Late Push Not Enough

UKC mounted a comeback attempt in the fourth quarter, scoring 29 points in the final frame, but Crandall's earlier lead proved too much to overcome. The Chargers maintained composure down the stretch to secure the 12-point victory.

One More to Go

With the regular season nearly complete, the Chargers won't have to wait long for their next challenge. Crandall and UKC will face off again tomorrow in the regular season finale — a quick turnaround and another opportunity for the Chargers to build momentum heading into postseason play.
