Chargers Fall in Crucial Playoff Battle, Set for Rematch Sunday

The Crandall Chargers battled until the final minute Saturday afternoon but ultimately fell 61–56 to UNBSJ at the GFE.

With both teams fighting for playoff positioning, the matchup carried major postseason implications. The loss moves Crandall to 2–13, while UNBSJ improves to 5–10, tightening the race as the regular season winds down.

Slow Start, Strong Push Back

UNBSJ opened efficiently and built a 19–16 first-quarter lead, extending it to 39–30 at halftime.

Crandall struggled from the field early, finishing 29.0% (20-69) overall, but stayed within striking distance through defensive pressure and second-effort plays.

Defensive Third Quarter Sparks Comeback

The Chargers held UNBSJ to just 10 points in the third quarter, cutting the deficit to 49–40 heading into the fourth.

Crandall forced 25 turnovers, converting them into 18 points off turnovers, helping fuel a late-game push.

Fourth Quarter Surge

A strong stretch from Kaley Axworthy, who finished with 17 points and 9 rebounds, helped bring the Chargers within one possession in the closing minutes.

Crandall trimmed the deficit to 53–51 with just over five minutes remaining and again made it a two-point game late, but UNBSJ converted key free throws down the stretch to secure the win.

With playoff positioning still on the line, the two teams will meet again tomorrow in a pivotal rematch that could have significant postseason implications.
