Chargers Battle Through Four Quarters in Loss to Mount Saint Vincent

The Crandall Chargers put together a strong defensive effort and stayed competitive throughout the afternoon but ultimately fell 66–54 to Mount Saint Vincent on Sunday at the A. Garnet Brown Memorial Gymnasium.

 

Mount Saint Vincent built an early cushion, taking a 19–11 lead after the first quarter and extending it to 38–24 by halftime. Crandall responded with improved play after the break, holding MSVU to just 14 points in both the third and fourth quarters while continuing to chip away offensively.

Ella Smith led the Chargers with a game-high 15 points, shooting 7-for-11 from the floor and adding four rebounds in an efficient performance. Lauren Lilly finished with nine points, while Meghan Fisher knocked down a key three-pointer on her way to seven points off the bench. Kaley Axworthy and Tristan DesRoches each contributed five points, and Charity Hearn added four points and six assists

 

Crandall was strong on the glass, outrebounding Mount Saint Vincent 40–37, with Kelsey Alward and Ellie Hiltz pulling down eight rebounds apiece. Defensively, the Chargers recorded 12 steals and limited MSVU to under 30 percent shooting from the field.

Turnovers proved to be the deciding factor, as Mount Saint Vincent capitalized with 39 points off turnovers, creating separation despite Crandall's defensive resilience and rebounding edge.
