Seawolves edge out Chargers in 5 sets

MONCTON, NB - In a rollercoaster match UNBSJ Seawolves were able to just edge out the Chargers in 5 sets (25-22, 25-12, 20-25, 18-25, 15-10).

Seawolves and Chargers battled it out in the first set trading points back and forth with neither team able to string together more than a 3 point run at any point. The Chargers would open up the second set with an early lead but got caught in an unfavorable rotation and the Seawolves took full advantage.

Crandall would make the needed adjustments to surge their way back into the game by winning the follow pair of sets.

Tied and heading into the deciding 5th set, and again it was locked in a back and forth battle that the Seawolves were able to take advantage of a favorable rotation and took the final set 15-10.

The Chargers had the hands full on the defensive side of the net as the Seawolves had 12 different players with making some form of attack over the course of the match. Abbey Bernard led the Seawolves with 9 kills on 24 attempts while also recording an ace, 5 digs and 2 blocking assists.

Crandall continued to feed Janelle Blanchette and Melora Cook the ball, recording 13 and 11 kills respectively. But, it was Janelle LeBlanc who really stood out in the match stringing together her best game of the season getting 6 kills of her 17 attempts and recording a team high 11 digs.

The Chargers will hit the court again Sunday as they host the Universite Sainte-Anne Dragons to wrap up their home games before the break.
