Charger's MacLean and Finnigan Take The Podium in ACAA Cross Country

The Crandall Chargers Cross Country teams made waves at their second meet of the season, recording podium placements on both the men's and women's sides. Hosted by Université Sainte-Anne at Mavilette Beach Provincial Park, races took place on the sand at low-tide.

On the women's side, third-year student and women's team captain Mary MacLean of Valley, NS placed 2nd with a time of 27:07. This was her first podium finish of the season. Rookie Makayla Somers of Fredericton placed 25th in a time of 39:42.

On the men's side, Sean Finnigan of Oromocto, NS finished first with a time of 30:11. Finnigan bided his time well, breaking apart the lead group 2km from the finish. Finnigan remains undefeated this season. Daniel Hawkes of Woodstock, NB placed 6th with a time of 31:56, followed by team captain Charles Taylor of Edmonton, AB, who placed 16th in a time of 38:23. Jacob Stewart of Moncton rounded out the team result with a 19th place finish and a time of 40:12. Logan Nickerson of Barrington, NS acted as a score displacer, finishing 20th in 41:16.

The team of rookies finished in third with a score of 36 points, one point behind behind Dalhousie Agricultural College (35 points) and meet winner Mount Allison University (26 points).

"Racing on a straight point-to-point, flat and fast beach course, today was an excellent opportunity for our athletes to test their speed and mental stamina," said Head Coach Brandon LeBlanc. "Individually and as a team, preparations are going well and we're showing good fitness in building towards the conference championships at the end of the month."

The Chargers will host the conference's third and final regular season meet at their home course in Mapleton Park, Moncton, NB on October 16th.
