Redeemer University Royals Emerge Victorious in Cross Country Challenge

The Redeemer University Royals defeated the Crandall University Chargers 38-44 in the final cross country meet of the season. The friendly head-to-head virtual meet was the first-of-its-kind for both teams, which saw each institution racing in their home towns of Moncton, NB and Hamilton, ON. Each institution entered a mixed team of male and female athletes, in which the top six athletes scored and additional runners acted as displacers.

Despite the narrow loss for the team, the Chargers had the overall top finisher and captured two spots on both the men's and women's podiums.

First overall was the Chargers' Marvik Ruiz Alvarado with a time of 24:17, followed by the Royals' Jakob Kramer in 26:37 and Alex Hisey of the Chargers in 28:27. On the women's side, the Royals' Annika Brink took the win with a time of 30:55, followed by Laine Bennett and Kennedy Steeves of the Chargers, in times of 31:52 and 31:59, respectively.

"Despite cold and windy conditions here in Moncton, our athletes gave it their all and had a blast getting to meet and compete against the Redeemer team," said Chargers Head Coach Brandon LeBlanc. "I'm looking forward to further collaborating with my counterpart at Redeemer, Jeremy Parsons, on making the Chargers vs. Royals challenge an annual event for our two schools."

The event kicked-off on Friday evening when athletes and coaches from both teams meeting virtually. Full results to the virtual meet can be found [here].
