Chargers Compete at Capital City Cross Country Classic

The Crandall Chargers men's and women's cross country teams participated in the 4km Capital City Cross Country Classic, held in O'Dell Park in Fredericton, NB. The meet was co-hosted by Athletics New Brunswick, the University of New Brunswick, and Saint John Track Club.

Rookie athlete Nick Fletcher outlasted second year athlete Aaron Reimer, both of Moncton, by one second, while three other competitors finished within four seconds. Fletcher ran a time of 16:07 to place 9th overall and 4th in his age category, while Reimer's time of 16:08 was good enough for 11th overall and 2nd in his age category.

On the women's side, rookie athlete, and women's team captain, Mary MacLean of Valley, NS faced tough competition to place 22nd overall and 2nd in her age category with a time of 20:26, while third-year athlete Kennedy Steeves of St. Stephen placed 25th overall and 3rd in her age category with a time of 21:30. Chargers rookie Jemm Smith of Dundas placed 27th overall and 7th in her age category with a time of 23:52.

"This meet served as a great opportunity for Crandall University to introduce itself to the New Brunswick sport community and take on much larger schools such as the University of New Brunswick, and other more well-developed programs," said Head Coach Brandon LeBlanc. "We look forward to affiliating with the provincial sport organization more often and competing in a wider variety of events in the future, including on the cross country trails, indoor and outdoor tracks, and on the roads."

The Chargers will next compete on October 19th in Halifax, NS in the third and final ACAA regular season meet, hosted by Mount Saint Vincent University.
